POKOTABI / Hato Poppo
ラーメン 餃子 ハトポッポ
Akabane's Hato Poppo delivers classic neighborhood Chinese fare, from sizzling cast-iron gyoza and moist pork fried rice to warming noodle bowls for a hearty dinner.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Dumplings arrive hissing on a searing iron plate over a bed of vegetables in the house specialty, Tokusei Teppan Yaki Gyoza. The thick skins take on a crisp sear on the hot metal while remaining chewy inside, releasing savory, juicy filling with every bite. It is a cornerstone dish at Hato Poppo in Akabane 1-chome, making an easy first order alongside a cold beer.
Just as popular is the pork fried rice, tossed to a moist, glistening texture with seasoned cuts of savory pork. The richness of the pork coats the rice grains, keeping spoons moving through the generous plate. For variety, the kitchen also offers fried rice variations studded with shrimp or garlic chives.
Noodle options move well beyond the classic Poppo Ramen and chashu noodles. Diners will find spicy eggplant noodle soup fragrant with chili and garlic, curry noodle soup topped with a rich, glossy curry sauce, and aromatic stir-fried yakisoba, offering plenty of variety depending on the night's craving.
The shop opens Wednesday through Sunday from 17:00 to 22:00, closing on Mondays and Tuesdays. Service is cash-only, and reservations are not accepted. With its snug layout of counter seats and small tables, it is a straightforward, unpretentious spot for a deeply satisfying evening meal.
